Home based Educators

We have received confirmation from the Ministry of Education that the new requirements for testing and vaccination do not apply to parents who home educate their own children. If home educating families come together as a group (eg for trips or sports) then they are subject to the general health order (eg physical distancing, masks) for the alert level in their location.

They acknowledge that there might be some confusion about our use of the term “home-based educators”, but this refers specifically to people providing home-based early childhood services. It is not referring to parents home educating under Section 39 of the Education Act.
